Life has many stages and events with many of them being quite positive and pleasant. We can call upon these experiences as we go forward to help us modify our living spaces or those of others for beneficial outcomes.
Life’s Lessons
Regardless of our present age, we have experienced a lot to get to this point. The older we are, the more we have experienced. It would be fantastic if we could report that all of those experiences were positive, but life is not like that. Thus, life is a composite of both good and less-good experiences.
All of us experienced childhood and adolescence with some fun times and some awkward moments also. Some of us think it might be nice to relive those times, but it’s better that we just look to the future. There’s an old expression that you can’t go back again so we’d likely find things not near the same as we remember them.
So we take our collective lessons and move with them into the future.
Good preparation for what’s ahead
As we have grown up and watched our parents, ourselves, any siblings, and any children or additional family members (aunts, uncles, or grandparents) we may have, we have witnessed and experienced a wealth of outcomes and seen how people respond to various situations. Some of those events were planned and eagerly anticipated, and some were quite sudden and unexpected.
Regardless of what came our way, we dealt with it. It is in this coping process that we received our education in effective living.
Effective living is discovered
When we have lived as long as we have, and we have encountered so many different situations along the way, we have received a very practical education in effective living. That is, what does it take to keep going and to arrive at the next step?
This discovery or awareness of what it takes to keep going day after day, and to help others to do the same, is what we can rely on and build upon to be successful in working with our families and the public as Certified Aging In Place Specialists.
